Got to admit that I haven't watched a Miss America pageant since they took Vanessa Williams crown away back in 1984. But, this year, I might just make an exception. There's a soldier in the pageant.
Theresa Vail is an M-16 marksman, and a bow hunter. She's a member of the Army national Guard Dental Corp, and is only the 2nd member of the military ever to make it to Miss America. The 22 year old is also a full-time college student at the University of Kansas. She is working to become a military dentist. And, oh yeah, you might have heard, she has tattoos.
Of all the things this remarkable woman should be known for, the media is lost in the fact that she has tats showing when she wears a bikini. The tat on her side is the "Serenity Prayer." That tramp! She has the Army Dental Corp emblem tattoos on her left shoulder. How disrespectful! Can we allow this trashy thang be held up as an example of what is good about women in this world?
What the hell is wrong with people? Forget the media and it's constant dribble of blood, sex & Kardashians. I don't expect more from them. But, how can ANY parent not say, "God, please let my child grow up to be like her."
And, I'm not talking about her physical beauty. I'm talking about what she is doing in spite of that. Her platform is helping women overcome stereotypes and break barriers. She recently wrote on her blog: "What a hypocrite I would be if I covered the ink."
She's not naked, swinging on a wrecking ball, licking a sledgehammer to get attention. Theresa Vail doesn't have to go down that road. She is showing the world who she is. A proud member of our miltary (something 97% of Americans cannot say). She's only the 2nd member of the military ever to make it to Miss America. And Miss Vail is a successful student who has a vision for her life. Oh...and she's a beautiful young woman, who has tattoos! Get over it!
She has already won because she is making us question of our values. I salute you, Theresa Vail, Miss Kansas. You give me hope. (Source)
